Calling All Redshirts!

We here at Hello Earth Productions are excited to have started rehearsals and are now in need of some fellow redshirts for a variety of volunteering opportunities!

We are currently looking for:

Musicians
Outdoor Trek's live house band, The Redshirts, is looking for a few good musical officers for this summer's show: Amok Time! All styles, all skill-levels, all instruments. Multi-instrumentalists a plus. You must be available for most of July and the first two weekends of August.

Day-Of Volunteers
Always wanted to see what it's like behind the scenes of a live show? Then volunteer for a few hours and help the Outdoor Trek crew put on an amazing show! We are in need of volunteers for the following dates:

Saturday, July 18, 7pm
Sunday, July 19, 2pm
Saturday, July 25, 7pm
Sunday, July 26, 2pm
Saturday, August 1, 7pm
Sunday, August 2, 2pm
Saturday, August 8, 7pm
Sunday, August 9, 2pm

A day-of volunteer would be responsible for setting up directional signs to the park, handing out programs, helping people find seating, help setting up for the show, selling t-shirts and posters after the production, and helping take everything down. We have also asked day-of volunteers to grab some ice for our cast and crew, as it gets rather hot, and we don't want anyone dehydrating! The time commitment for a day-of volunteer is about four hours - two hours before the show, staying for the length of the show, then staying after to help sell t-shirts, posters and take down of the set. We are looking for a minimum of two volunteers per show, but the more the merrier! A short orientation at the park (date and time TBD) prior to the first show will be required to learn the specifics for this year's show. Bonus: you also get a free t-shirt!

"Amok Time" will be showing at Dr. Blanche Lavizzo Park, 2100 S Jackson St, Seattle, WA 98144

Can't make the above commitments, but still want to help out? Please send an email to Raven, the Volunteer Coordinator, let her know your interests and skills, and she will keep you informed of any other opportunities that arise, such as prop-making parties, help with costumes and sets, and more!

If you, or anyone you know might be interested in the above opportunities, please email Hello Earth's Volunteer Coordinator, Raven Harrell. If you have any other inquiries, please send the bridge a message at helloearthseattle@gmail.com.

Even if all you can do is pass on the word, please do! Please follow us on Twitter, Tumblr, and Facebook!

ATTENTION: AUDITION SCHEDULE CHANGE!

ALERT: DUE TO A GRAVITIC MINE AND SCHEDULING ISSUES, AUDITIONS ARE NOT BEING HELD ON THE 20TH AND 21ST.

Currently, there is a plan to hold an audition on Tuesday, April 28th and Tuesday, May 5th. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience. Please contact us with questions or concerns.

Now recruiting!

Hello Earth is a grass roots community enterprise formed with the intention of presenting free entertainment in outdoor spaces. In its fifth season, previous Star Trek episodes have been “The Naked Time," “This Side of Paradise,” "Devil in the Dark," and "Mirror, Mirror." Every year has been better and more successful than the last, and this year will be even more spectacular.

Needed: Actors to fill all roles (except Kirk and Spock), which will be cast without regard to the gender or race of the original series characters. We are not looking for impersonation. We are looking for creative people who want to be part of the process both on and off stage.

Auditions will consist of cold readings. Please be prepared to stay for the entire time; we may not need you for that long but we will be holding callbacks after hearing everyone.

Performances will take place at the end of July and beginning of August outside at Blanche Lavizzo Park.

Time:  EITHER Monday, April 20 from 7-9:30pm OR Tuesday, April 21 Tuesday, April 28, from 7-9:30pm or Tuesday, May 5, from 7-9:30pm.

Location: Theatre Puget Sound, Armory/Center House, Seattle Center, Fourth Floor Conference Room (downstairs in Center House Theater) (Monday, April 20th) and Studio I (Tuesday, April 21st) Exact room TBD.

Personal Log: James Lyle (Marlena)

James is a Seattle-based actor, playwright, and lifelong Star Trek fan. His evening of comic vignettes, To the Naked Eye, just completed its run with Playwrights’ Theatre. He recently joined the cast of the upcoming fantasy feature, First Ranger of the King.

What do you think of Outdoor Trek so far, and what are you looking forward to about the upcoming production?
I’m a big fan of Outdoor Trek and thrilled to finally get the chance to play with these amazingly creative folks this year. I’m most looking forward to surprising and delighting audiences with our unique take on Trek. And of course oiling my traps for the great, powerful Captain Kirk.

What cool things do you do in your life outside of Outdoor Trek?
Apart from Star Trek and acting, I enjoy hiking, camping, candlelit dinners, long walks on the beach, and theoretical linguistics.

What history do you have with theatrical productions?
I’ve been acting in the Seattle area since 2004 at places like ArtsWest, Stone Soup, SecondStory Rep, Ghost Light Theatricals, and others. I’m also a playwright—my show To the Naked Eye just completed its world premiere run produced by Playwrights’ Theatre, and I’m active in Playwrights’ new play incubation lab, which does public readings of new and developing works twice monthly at Stone Soup.  On September 8 we’ll be reading my latest draft of a new sci-fi play called Red Planet Blue.

What history do you have with Star Trek?
Star Trek and I go way back. Way, way back. Before Outdoor Trek, my most Trektastic moment as a fan has been playing Doctor Alden, Chief Medical Officer of the Starship Phoenix, on the fan film series Star Trek: Phoenix.  Check it out on YouTube! If, you know, you’re into that sort of thing. Or even if you’re not.

What excites you about the future of mankind?
The fact that so many of our predictions of what it will be like have been wrong.  The most pessimistic predictions (nuclear war, strangling overpopulation, Hunger Games) haven’t happened.  And even the most optimistic dreamers utterly failed to anticipate something which turned out to be way more awesome—the information technology revolution.  It’s 2014, and no, I don’t have a jetpack.  But I do have a smartphone.  And nobody saw it coming. I can’t wait to find out what comes next!

[With sincere apologies to Mr. Lyle, who was left out through my own oversight. --Kris]
